When you’re the son of a horror movie legend, the pressure to follow in his footsteps must be huge. Thankfully, Brandon Cronenberg, son of director David, more than met these expectations.

Brandon’s first film, Antiviral, was released in 2012. Set in the near-future, the world is obsessed with celebrities to such a dangerous degree that superfans will pay to be injected with the same diseases as their idols. This is where Syd March (Caleb Landry Jones) comes in - he works for a company that perpetuates this grim fascination.

Syd is making some money on the side by selling diseases grown in his own body on the black market. What could possibly go wrong with that? Oh, he injects himself with a disease that he can’t cure; that’s what.

Antiviral is wickedly twisted and a stellar comment on the lengths people will go to to feel famous, even at the expense of their own health. To be this confident with your first movie is really something, as Brandon commands the camera with a sense of style and control that his old man was surely very proud of.
