10 Awesome Horror Movies You Probably Missed In 2018

First-time feature filmmaker Fritz Böhm’s unsettling horror-fantasy Wildling unfortunately never really found its feet thanks to a VOD release and very limited cinema run but for fans of the likes of Let the Right One In, Carrie and Ginger Snaps it’s a must-see.

A dark indie fairy tale, the film stars Brit actress Bel Powley as a teenager named Anna kept in captivity her whole life by a mysterious man who calls himself Daddy (horror legend and voice of Chucky, Brad Dourif) and starts injecting her with a supposed medicine once she hits puberty.

After he attempts to kill himself, Anna is thrust into the outside world but what first seems like a Room-esque plot soon evolves into creature feature territory as she begins morphing into something monstrous and wild that proves Daddy’s behaviour may well have been at least somewhat justified.

A visually stunning movie boasting cinematography from Get Out’s DP Toby Oliver, Wildling offers a fresh take on the ‘coming-of-age as allegory for a monstrous transformation’ shtick with a female heroine who grows to embrace her inner monster.
