10 Awesome Horror Movies You Probably Missed In 2018
7. Terrified
Apart from Mama and It director Andy Muschietti, Argentine horror isn’t exactly well-known on a global scale which is a pity because the country is pumping out some seriously good horror movies.
Following in the footsteps of Argentina’s better horror offerings like cult splatter series Plaga Zombie and 2010’s Cold Sweat comes Terrified – a paranormal chiller from director Demián Rugna which thanks to a film festival-to-VOD release didn’t get much of a chance to scare the ever-living crap out of us.
Set in suburban Buenos Aires, the film follows a cop on the verge of retirement and a trio of paranormal investigators as they come together to try and find the cause behind a series of particularly horrible hauntings taking place on the same street.
Though the premise isn’t exactly unfamiliar territory, Rugna injects a breath of fresh air with some genuinely terrifying paranormal entities and an episodic narrative that unfolds in an effective disorientating fashion. Imagine a cross between the better Blumhouse films out there and Ju-on: The Grudge and you’ll get a good idea of what kind of horror Terrified is.
