10 Awesome Movie Characters Everybody Forgot Was Recast

7. Fandral - The MCU

Iron Man Terrence Howard
Marvel Studios

One of the best characters from the first Thor film was Fandral, one of the Warriors Three who was a longtime friend of Thor's. In the first film, he was played by Josh Dallas, who is probably best known for playing Prince Charming on ABC's Once Upon A Time opposite Ginnifer Goodwin's Snow White.

Though Dallas did an outstanding job portraying the character, he wasn't the studio's first choice to play him. If the filmmakers had their way, the role would have gone to Zachary Levi. Unfortunately for Levi, he couldn't take the part in 2011 due to his commitments to Chuck, the series he was starring in at the time.

When it came time to throw Fandral back on the screen in Thor: The Dark World, it was Dallas' turn to have the same kind of conflict. Because of his commitments to Once Upon A Time, he was unable to return to film his role.

When this happened, things worked out for Levi, and he was able to take on the role, which he portrayed in both Thor sequels. Levi did an amazing job, but his performance was built off the hard work and incredible talents of Dallas, who established the character for the MCU.
