10 Awesome Movie Characters Everybody Forgot Was Recast

6. Everyone - The Flintstones: Viva Rock Vegas

The Flintstones is one of the most beloved cartoon sitcoms of all time, which is why a lot of thought and money went into making a live-action film based off the series. In 1994, fans got to see their favorite stone-age family portrayed by John Goodman, Rick Moranis, Elizabeth Perkins, and Rosie O'Donnell as Fred, Barney, Wilma, and Betty.

The movie was a box office success, and like any film in Hollywood that brings in a ton of cash, a sequel wasn't long in the making. Ultimately, the filmmakers decided to release a prequel titled, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, which hit theaters in 2000. That was six years after the first release, and not one member of the original cast came back to reprise their role.

Fred was played by Mark Addy, Stephen Baldwin took over as Barney, Kristen Johnston played Wilma, and Jane Krakowski was tasked to portray Betty. While replacing one actor in a prequel/sequel is risky, replacing an entire cast proved to be disastrous.

The film was a critical and box office failure. While the first movie managed to rake in well over $300 million, the second managed just under $60 million. Viva Rock Vegas even received nominations at the 21st Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Picture, Worst Supporting Actor & Actress, and Worst Remake or Sequel.
