6. L.B. Jeffries - Rear Window

The plot of
Rear Window is that a man, recently waylaid by an accident and now recuperating in his apartment, spies on his neighbours daily, to the point where he ascertains their individual personalities and starts to give them pet names. Director Alfred Hitchcock patches over the peeping tom aspect of the picture because, when a film is this fascinating, you forget to care. But ultimately,
Rear Window is still about a man who regularly peers through darkness into his neighbours apartments, via the help of binoculars, camera lenses and his girlfriend and masseuse (who are basically enablers), all because its something to pass the time. Obviously hes going to be bored but, bear in mind, they had invented television by the 1950s.
