10 Awesome Movie Gunfights You've Probably Never Seen

8. Sorter's Rampage (Revolver)

Guy Ritchie's critically-reviled thriller from 2005 stars Jason Statham as a freshly released convict seeking revenge against crime boss Ray Liotta. While the film isn't quite the apocalyptic turkey it's been made out to be, thanks to some good performances and slick direction, it does suffer greatly from its portentous, self-important tone. But it did provide a showcase for the talents of actor Mark Strong, who's since gone onto to be a scene-stealing presence in any number of films like Kick-Ass and Sherlock Holmes. In Revolver he plays Sorter, the world's coolest assassin. He's hired to kill Statham and towards the end of the film he accompanies Liotta's second in command as they interrogate Statham's brother. Sorter - a killer with a code - is visibly uncomfortable with the man's brutal torture and when they threaten to hurt his child Sorter decides he's had enough. He abruptly shoots the second in command and proceeds to wipe out the rest of his henchmen as they close in. What follows is easily one of the most uniquely shot and edited gunfights in cinema history as he casually strolls from room to room dispatching random thugs. Instead of straight forward edits, old shots slide out of frame to be replaced with new ones. This odd touch gives the scene a sense of energy and momentum that's unique to this film alone, and even people who flat out hate Revolver have to admit, it's a great scene.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
