10 Awesome Movie Jobs You Had No Idea Existed

7. Maintaining Star Wars' Lore

A New Hope Star Wars
Lucasfilm

The mythology of Star Wars is so dense and labyrinthine that you'd be forgiven for assuming that Lucasfilm doesn't even bother trying to keep track of it. But think again.

Shortly after Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, producer Kathleen Kennedy formed the Lucasfilm Story Group, a collective of creative executives working for the company whose job it is to keep the Star Wars canon in check.

On any Star Wars project, whether a film, TV series, comic book, or video game, the Story Group is a resource to be consulted to ensure that characters, locations, and the general rules that govern the universe are kept firmly consistent.

The Story Group's most prominent member is inarguably Pablo Hidalgo, a lore-keeper whose vast well of Star Wars knowledge and regular engagement with fans on social media has led to him being affectionately dubbed "the Yoda of Lucasfilm."

Given the headache-inducing depth of Star Wars' lore, even with most of the Expanded Universe being ditched in 2014, it follows that maintaining it requires a think tank to help guide the creative decisions of the real storytellers.
