8. Indy Forgets He's Seen A Ton of Magic - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
The Indiana Jones trilogy (yes,
trilogy) tells the story of a James Bond-type character who jets around the world, stealing artefacts, kissing dames and whipping people to death. After the success of the original movie,
Raiders of the Lost Ark, and the serial-like nature of the series in general, an inevitable sequel found itself manifesting, and so we got the awesome (and underrated)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. For some reason, though, Spielberg decided that this should be a prequel, which would have been fine, had that been logically sound. Problems that, in actuality, mean that the movie makes absolutely no sense when you put it into context. First of all, we're setting this a year before the events of
Raiders, presumably because the filmmakers wanted to have a new love interest but didn't want to ruin the idea that Indy and Marion stayed together. Anyway, during the course of
Temple, Indy sees a ton of magic: the movie is actually
about his transformation from a skeptic into a believer. One of the last lines in the movie has Indy confirming that he believes in magic. And yet, at the beginning of
Raiders, one year later, he tells Marcus that he doesn't believe in "magic and hocus pocus." Oops.
