1. Its Old - Psycho
The Twist: Norman Bates pretends to be his mother to kill people. OK, I'm going to level with you. Unlike many other entries on this list I couldn't think of a truly legitimate argument for this one. Psychos been parodied a little and the twist is at some level of notoriety, but the film is more well known for the shower scene and the Bates Motel in general, rather than the stuffed mother. It toes the line between being a film lovers classic and an eternal must see. So I'm faced with a film that is a long standing classic and a twist well known to some (which was admittedly much more prominent in previous generations when the sequels popped up) that many people I know dont know at all. It was one of the first films that came to mind when compiling this list and yet it seems like the flimsiest emtry. Except there is one, almost depressing reason why you can. Psycho is an old film. Reveal the final gasp of a crap, but recent film and youre in for a long, hard cold shoulder. But reveal an old films final twist and people will shrug it off. Theres less drive to see it and be surprised. Its depressing but whats new will always grab people more than the classics. In the end, thats why this tops the list. Its the two word reasoning you could use to defend the reveal of any of these twists. Its an old film, if you havent seen it by this point its entirely your fault.
Well there you have it. Go free and spoil these films safe in knowledge some guy on the internet said it was OK. Are there any more youd feel OK ruining? Have your say in the comments below. But make sure to use a spoiler warning.
