10 Awesome Movies It Suddenly Became Cool To Hate

8. The Hurt Locker (2008)

One of the things that a lot of the movies on this list have in common is the fact that they won Academy Awards for Best Picture, and in retrospect people aren't too pleased with that decision: to reiterate a point previously mentioned when discussing Forrest Gump, that's a pretty p*ss poor reason to jump on the backlash bandwagon - should a film be subjected to extensive, unnecessary criticisms in the wake of winning awards during a process that its creators had absolutely no part in? Like Forrest Gump before it, then, The Hurt Locker was embraced 'til it became too popular. Kathryn Bigelow's film is an intense, nail-biting drama about bomb disposable experts working in Iraq. Looking back at the other contenders for Best Picture in 2008 (among which the best films were Avatar and Inglourious Basterds), it was probably the only movie of the bunch that actually "felt" like a Best Picture winner (some might argue a case for Precious, but no thanks). In this case, the backlash started when real-life military personnel began to pick holes in the movie's authenticity. And so those who might've previously enjoyed it decided it had done them an injustice instead.
