10 Awesome Movies That Break The Fourth Wall

2. Annie Hall

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OpIYz8tfGjY Annie Hall is one of the greatest comedies of all time primarily because of its script, which really digs down deep into the dramatic and comic truth of relationships, and by breaking the fourth wall, it manages to grasp at these truths in even more intimate and also more hilarious detail than almost any other film of its kind. Allen's Alvy is standing in line with Annie (Diane Keaton) to go into the cinema, when they hear a pretentious goon piping up behind them about his opinions on Fellini, much to Alvy's disdain. It all turns on its head when Alvy suddenly jumps out of line, and asks us "What do you when you get stuck on a movie line with a guy like this behind you?". Suddenly, the pompous guy jumps out of the queue as well and begins talking to us, and after the two start arguing about media philosopher Marshall Mcluhan, Alvy brings the actual Mcluhan out of the wings to tell the douche "You know nothing of my work". Alvy then remarks, "Boy, if life were only like this", the exclaimation point on one of cinema's most hilarious wall-breaking moments.
