10 Awesome Movies That STILL Aren't On Blu-Ray

6. Frances

Solaris 2002
Universal Pictures

For a movie that created so much buzz during its release, Frances should have stood the test of time for the classic that it was but, for some reason, it has been overlooked to such a degree that you'd be forgiven for forgetting that it exists. The 1982 film told the real life story of Frances Farmer's meteoric rise to fame and, although it received some criticism, everything about it was elevated by Jessica Lange's phenomenal performance - one that earned her an Academy Award nomination.

Given the film's prominence, you would expect it to have been well-preserved but, in all honesty, it's hard to picture what Frances would even look like on Blu-Ray because almost every copy of the film (be it broadcast, DVD or the SD iTunes copy) look so dated. Though not particularly bad, the quality just doesn't look all that great and, perhaps most annoyingly of all, the colours are incredibly faded.

The tale of Frances Farmer is undoubtedly a tragic one - and its one that newer generations should know. Furthermore, the film is, without a doubt, one of finest ever offerings from Lange (which says a lot considering that she has since made a career out of phenomenal performances), so, with all of that in mind, it's only fair that it be welcomed into the modern era with a complete remaster.
