9. Gerry Lane - World War Z
The film adaptation of Max Brooks' actually awesome novel
World War Z felt neutered in a lot of places (why make a PG-13 zombie movie?), and its main character, the shrug-inspiring Gerry Lane, was no exception. I'm of a certain school of thought that believes putting Brad Pitt in just about any movie is a good way to make it instantly better - the guy has evolved into a genuinely great actor over the last ten years, and it almost always feels like a bonus to have him around. Unless the movie in question is this one, of course, in which Pitt spends the entire film looking... well, confused. That'd be fine, given his situation, if we could invest in his character at all - he has about as much personality as a garden shovel. There's nothing special about Gerry Lane - just some guy with Brad Pitt's looks. Given all the things he's supposedly seen as a UN inspector, though, would it have hurt all that much to have given this character a few notable traits?
