10 Awesome Movies That Suffered From Incredibly Bland Heroes

8. Driver - Drive

Drive I know what you're thinking: Driver isn't bland, he's just brooding and cool - you've totally missed the point with this one, Mr. Big Dumb Internet Writer. Maybe I have... or maybe this character has gotten by on the grace of Ryan Gosling's handsome looks and the rest of Nicolas Winding Refn's sleek retro-infused movie. Don't get me wrong: Driver isn't a terrible character by any means, but did we learn anything about him? Is there any more to him than what we see? Unfortunately, we're never giving the chance to find out. Some movie-goers might have preferred that we never found out what allows this guy to transform from friendly, quiet next door neighbour into dangerous psychopath. It's certainly one thing to leave it ambiguous, but I'm convinced there was a far more interesting movie here - one that could have incorporated style and substance - had we learned a little more about this guy. As it stands, he's something of an empty shell.
