6. Ethan Hunt - Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

00174 There have been four - count 'em - movies featuring Ethan Hunt as the central character in a gargantuan action franchise, and despite the fact that we've spent, oh, nearly eight hours in this guy's company, I can't remember a single thing about him, except for the fact that he looks and acts like Tom Cruise. So whereas Ghost Protocol is the best and greatest movie in the Mission: Impossible series thus far, it's such a shame we've got stuck with Ethan Hunt. An action franchise of this size just shouldn't feature such a vague and bland-y hero. Think about other like-minded franchises that keep us coming back: in Lethal Weapon, we felt like we really knew Riggs... he has a dog named Sam and he loves The Three Stooges. In Die Hard, we knew John McClane was a stubborn son of a gun, and a borderline alcoholic. Ethan... well, Ethan likes... uh, taking on "impossible missions," I guess. Which is... . Sorry, almost nodded off.
