10 Awesome Obscure Alan Rickman Roles You Probably Missed

7. Quigley Down Under

Alan Rickman with a porno tash wearing a Stetson. Need we make more of a case for why everyone should watch Quigley Down Under? Rickman plays Elliot Marston, a black-clad cowboy obsessive whose regrettable occupation (that is, trying to eradicate the land of indigenous aborigines) sees him square up to sharpshooter Matthew Quigley (Tom Selleck) in a series of gunfights that range from the sublime to the slapstick. The sheer strangeness of the film and lack of public appetite for comedy Westerms led to a mediocre performance at the box office, but regardless, Rickman is as entertaining as ever. Whether galloping around on horseback, toking on cigars or fixing his cowboy nemesis with the Hans Gruber death stare, the veteran actor brings both wily comic timing and quiet gravitas to a role that shouldn€™t have been anything more than a throwaway bit-part. A cult classic, and a wild card entry for weirdest Rickman movie ever.
