10 Awesome Planned Movie Cameos (That Sadly Never Happened)

9. Christopher Reeve - Supergirl

Birdman Captain Jack Johnny Depp
Warner Bros.

Christopher Reeve had a love/hate affair with the Man of Steel. It launched his career and made him a star, but no matter what he did he could never shake the character off. He wasn’t terribly happy with Superman III or The Quest For Peace either, feeling the former ignored Superman in favour of Richard Pryor, and that the latter was just a steaming piece of crap.

When Superman III proved to be a disappointment financially the producers opted to make Supergirl instead to reinvigorate the series. The film makes it clear it’s set in the same continuity as the Superman movies; the character is mentioned constantly, his picture is seen a few times and Marc McClure’s Jimmy Olson makes an appearance.

Reeve himself is notably absent, although he initially agreed to a cameo. His reasons for backing out aren’t clear, but a good look at the script might have put him off. A pity, because even in the weaker Superman movies Reeve's charisma always shined through.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
