10 Awesome Plot Twists That Totally Saved Awful Horror Movies

3. Unfriended

Dead Silence
Blumhouse Productions

In Unfriended, five friends discover their Skype call has been infiltrated by the ghost of Laura Barns - a classmate who took her life after a humiliating video of her was uploaded online. Laura then claims the person who uploaded the clip is among the five friends. Worse still, she vows to kill them all unless the transgressor comes forward.

Even though Unfriended has a creative premise, you couldn't care less about the characters. Every person in this teen slasher is so one-dimensional, you don't bat an eyelid when Laura puts them out of their misery.

Having said that, the final moments definitely strike a chord. Throughout the movie, Laura kills everyone in the chat, save for Blaire, who was friends with her since childhood. Although Blaire is not without sin, she's the most sympathetic of her group, since she's the only one trying to remedy her mistakes.

Or so it seems. In the last scene, Laura uploads an extended version of the humiliating video, which concludes with Blaire laughing into the camera, proving she put the clip online. Laura's vengeful spirit then attacks Blaire before the screen cuts to black.

Even though Blaire seemed like the only redeemable person in her clique, we only realised in the closing seconds that she was the worst of the lot.
