10 Awesome Recent Horror Movie Kills You Probably Missed

9. Dani - Oddity

Damian McCarthy's Oddity has certainly enjoyed strong acclaim from critics, though its wider rollout has been disappointingly muted so far. This eerie Irish horror romp gets off to a blistering start with a kill that, while not inherently graphic, benefits from a deeply disturbing execution - pardon the pun.

Oddity opens with the murder of psychiatrist Ted's (Gwilym Lee) wife Dani (Carolyn Bracken), who is renovating their new house when she's attacked by a masked killer in the middle of the night.

Rather than kick the movie off with a gory death scene, though, McCarthy opts for unnerving restraint. Just as the hammer-toting killer makes a move towards Dani in her tent, we suddenly jump cut to the tent covered in blood, with only a faint shadow of Dani's brutalised corpse visible, all while the killer chillingly studies their work.

Even gore-hounds will likely appreciate that not showing the kill was the more effective choice here, ominously setting the stage for the twisted story to follow.
