4. Penny - Borderline
Borderline is a provocative horror-comedy set in 1990s Los Angeles as pop star Sofia (Samara Weaving) is taken hostage by an obsessive fan, Duerson (Ray Nicholson), who plans to stage a wedding for the pair of them.
Given that Borderline was dumped in just 25 cinemas, where it grossed a grand total of $13,847 before being quietly sloughed onto streaming, audiences can't really be blamed for sleeping on this one, which additionally received mixed reviews from critics.
Despite its unhinged style and tone, Borderline also doesn't have much of a body count, though filmmaker Jimmy Warden certainly makes the most of the few he does execute, especially when it comes to the demise of Duerson's accomplice Penny (Alba Baptista).
Penny, who is shown to be quite the psychopath herself, gets a Very Metal death when Sofia douses her in lighter fluid, locks her inside a recording booth, and then throws a burning sheet of paper inside.
This causes a contained fire which promptly sets Penny ablaze, Warden lingering on her suffering, all while a thoroughly freaked out Sofia looks on.
