5. Bond vs. Korean Army - Die Another Day

You wouldn't know it from the opening 10 minutes or so, but Die Another Day is a terrible film, and it's no surprise that in light of this fact, Bond went on a hiatus for 4 years before returning suited and rebooted in the stellar Casino Royale. The opening scene of DAD, however, provides plenty of genuine promise for what is to follow; Bond infiltrates a North Korean base, starts kicking ass, chases the Big Bad in a hovercraft, and after a few explosions, eventually gets captured. This leads into an opening credits sequence in which we see Bond being tortured, sporting a gigantic beard. It sets the scene so well, suggesting that this is far from the silly Bond we've seen before; in his captivity, he is unrecognisable as the suave, sophisticated agent we remember, perhaps an early sign of the direction the franchise was going to go. Still, the rest of the film, with its invisible cars and blandly forgettable villains, is absolutely horrible.
