10 Awesome Slasher Films You've Probably Never Seen

8. Urban Legend

Urban Legend could have been big, if it hadn€™t been totally eclipsed by the behemoth that was Scream. Slightly ripping off Scream€™s take on a self-aware slasher, Urban Legend follows teens being terrorised by a killer who attacks their victims in the style of various urban legends. The title is very apt in that way. Urban Legend€™s cast features several of the €˜90s teen film crowd (Tara Reid, Rebecca Gayheart), as well as a young Jared Leto who, as it turns out, was a dead ringer for Zac Efron in his youth (which means that Zac Efron will eventually start looking like Jesus? Maybe). Despite being a fairly obvious attempt to cash-in on the success of the new wave of slashers (and failing), Urban Legend is pretty awesome. The urban legend spin, whilst not exactly new, is executed excellently, and the inevitable twist is actually not at all predictable, which is very unusual for the genre. Not only that, but the inimitable Robert Englund is part of the cast which, as we all know, is a stamp of quality for any good self-referential slasher.

Fan of Taylor Swift and the Dead Kennedys (a duet I can only dream of). I like dystopias, slasher films, and video games that make me feel things.
