This would have been such an interesting dynamic to see Luke so close to both Kylo and Rey at the same time, and the difference in his relationship between his former and current students.

Mark Hamill would have had a much larger role in the Duel of the Fates, still trying to convince Kylo to give up even as the former Ben Solo is fighting Rey at the conclusion of the movie. Even with the help of the force ghosts of Yoda and Obi-Wan, Luke is ultimately unsuccessful in this.
