Kylo Ren and Tor Valum's training on Remnicore seems very similar to what would be a dark, parallel version of Luke and Yoda on Dagobah. There, Skywalker was put through his paces, possibly the most difficult task of which was facing the vision of himself.

During his training, Tor Valum would have put Kylo Ren in a similar situation, forcing him to fight the vision of his grandfather, Darth Vader. There has been so much imagery and references towards Anakin Skywalker in the sequel trilogy, and this would have topped it all.

Rogue One showed just how incredible a single Darth Vader scene can be all these years after his demise, but this would have gone even deeper. While Kylo Ren looked up to Vader throughout his entire journey, and vowed to finish what he started, becoming Vader was also the grandson's biggest fear.

Eventually, Anakin Skywalker was won over by love, and betrayed the dark side of the force. In battling Vader, aside from the incredible visual, Ren would have been fighting against what was left of Ben Solo inside himself. The fact that Kylo would lose would've foreshadowed his eventual end later in the movie.
