Akihiro was the son Wolverine never knew he had. Born to Logan's wife Itsu in the 1940's, his mother was killed and he was kidnapped as part of a plan by the villain Romulus (who was a stupid wolfman and will never be mentioned again).

Years later, he learned of his true heritage and blamed his father for everything that happened. Taking the name Daken (Japanese for mongrel), he swore vengeance on Wolverine.

Logan would try to redeem Daken but could never stop him from slipping back into his villainous ways. This all culminated in Uncanny X-Force, where Daken assembled a new version of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and attacked the team, destroying their base and threatening to kill all the students at the Jean Grey School.

This pushed Wolverine to finally realize that his son was beyond redemption. After an emotional battle, Logan kills him using a method Daken had tried to use against him earlier, drowning. Holding Daken's face down in a shallow pool of water, they both imagine a happier life they could have led together, until Daken stops breathing and Wolverine is left holding his son's corpse.

It's a moment that defines the very essence of Wolverine, a man who wants to lead a good life, but whose dark past keeps leading him down a violent path that inevitably ends in tragedy.
