10 Awful 2014 Movies That Deserved To Bomb At The Box Office

5. Bad Words

Budget: $10 million Box office: $7.8 million Jason Bateman's career as an actor has been somewhat chequered over the years, with hit-or-miss sitcoms making up most of his output along with a string of smaller parts in movies of variable quality. Bad Words marks the Arrested Development star's directorial debut. Bad Words might not be the worst comedy of all time - or the worst movie on this list, for that matter - but that's far from a ringing endorsement of quality. Bateman stars as Guy Trilby, a man who enters a national spelling bee after discovering a loophole in the rules, who proceeds to unleashing his acerbic misanthropic wit on the rest of the contestants. Unfortunately, the film simply isn't as witty or acerbic as it thinks it is, veering between offensiveness and amiability and ultimately not knowing where to settle. Bateman should probably stick to the acting and leave the feature film making to those who know how to pull it off with flair.
