10 Awful 2017 Horror Movies To Avoid This Halloween
6. 47 Meters Down
Originally intended to go straight-to-video, 47 Meters Down was given a theatrical release at the last minute and ended up one of the summer's sleeper horror hits, grossing almost ten-fold its $5.5 million budget.
Its low-rent origins are thoroughly apparent throughout this promising but ultimately stunningly boring horror in which two women find themselves trapped in a shark cage on the ocean floor and surrounded by blood-thirsty sharks.
Director Johannes Roberts clearly struggles to fill his 85 minute run-time with much of interest, in part due to the film's slender budget. It doesn't help at all that the film decides to also throw some predictable and groan-worthy third-act twists at the viewer.
Worse than anything, it's not fun or suspenseful, either. If you're craving a minimalist shark movie that actually works, check out the Blake Lively-starring The Shallows instead.
