10 Awful 2017 Horror Movies To Avoid This Halloween
5. Death Note
Many fans of the original Death Note manga were excited when Netflix bankrolled a live-action Hollywood adaptation, with Willem Dafoe playing the demonic Ryuk no less.
While Dafoe gives a fine villainous performance, Death Note is for the most part a rushed, sloppy and ineffective attempt to bring a terrific tale to the masses.
First off, the characters are more annoying than compelling and rarely act plausibly, it takes an overly simplistic, juvenile approach to the dishy premise, and ultimately results in another disappointing failure for director Adam Wingard (The Guest).
Wingard's already hopeful for a sequel, and while the first film no doubt racked up solid views on Netflix, one can only hope the rancid critical reception might deter the streaming giant from actually moving forward with it.
