10 Awful 2017 Horror Movies To Avoid This Halloween

'Member Rings? That's basically the hook for this decade-too-late "sequel", which reconfigures Samara's origin story for no good reason and essentially exists as a reboot pretending it's the third film in the franchise.

Riddled with unlikeable characters you'll actively hope to die, sleepwalking performances and a laughably generic supernatural mystery plot, the film's only saving grace is a riotously over-the-top performance from Vincent D'Onofrio, who seems to be the only actor aware he's in a terrible film.

There was certainly some decent potential to retool The Ring for the smartphone era, but this cynical, lazy retread isn't it. Rings was released with Paramount planning to make it their new annual horror franchise, but following terrible reviews, a merely-decent box office and executive shufflings at Paramount, it looks like this (thankfully) might just be a one-off.
