10 Awful Films Game Of Thrones Actors Want Us To Forget
7. Natalie Dormer - The Forest
Many real-life mysteries fill the minds of the mainstream with anxiety, and one such example is the famous suicide forest of Japan - Aokigahara. The renowned forest that is home to a litany of suicides is a haunting presence that ultimately feels supernatural, despite the easy debunking of such a theory. There have been a few attempts to bring the strange legend to film, including the mundane Sea of Trees and utterly dreadful The Forest.
Natalie Dormer certainly does a decent job in this film, as her performance often comes across as very believable, and it's surprisingly easy to become invested in her character. Sadly the absolute mess of a narrative, strange visuals and lacklustre filmmaking on display turn it into a difficult film to watch and not for the right reasons.
Like Sea of Trees, it feels that this subject matter isn't something that needs to be adapted. The fear that this legend brings is the lack of explanation and the true-life horror tragedy that makes it feel grounded and real. With this film, there is an effort to upscale the supernatural elements, and it forces the project to feel surprisingly mundane and far-removed from the fear that carries this legend.
This is not a project that Dormer will want people recognising her for.
