10 Awful Franchises That Proved Bad Movies Can Still Make Big Money
2. The Twilight Saga
Just look at that haunting CGI baby and try and convince anyone that The Twilight Saga is anything but utter nonsense. The books most definitely had a huge and frequently over-zealous fanbase, but just because a lot of people really like something doesn't make it good.
The five movies seized the zeitgeist and dominated at the box office as a result, earning well over $3.3bn as the so-called Twihards flocked to their nearest theater in droves to see each installment, often a lot more than once as well. It was nothing short of a cultural phenomenon, despite the fact that the vast majority of non-fans couldn't understand what all the fuss was about.
At the height of its popularity daring to insult Twilight was tantamount to sacrilege, but its become a much easier target in recent years, with Robert Pattinson himself one of the most notorious offenders. However, with the imminent release of a new book in the series, we might need to brace ourselves for the hysteria starting all over again.
