Most contemporary movie reboots aim to update a classic movie property for a new age, and one of the ways to do that is to include more up to date music, though for this new RoboCop, Padilha went for a totally different route, picking classic rock tunes that...totally don't fit the tone of the movie at all. There are two musical choices that stick out like sore thumbs: firstly, the use of Focus' 1971 classic instrumental piece Hocus Pocus during Alex's first field test, and then the use of The Clash's inimitable I Fought The Law during the closing credits. Given that the tone of the movie was relatively serious throughout, use of such music felt awkward, especially considering the movie doesn't exactly end on a hugely triumphant note that would warrant a lively anthem like The Clash's hit song. Had the film been more satirical in nature, perhaps these choices would've worked, but as the film's relatively straight-faced, it should have stuck to a pure score.
