At least MGM were smart enough to leak pictures of this suit about a year movie RoboCop hit cinemas, as it allowed them time to play the PR offensive and change public perceptions about how seemingly terrible the suit looked. On its own merits, this tactical, black suit looks pretty cool for an action movie, but replacing the bulky, blue-silver suit we as fans are used to? That's something different altogether. The original iconic suit does make a brief appearance at the beginning and the end of the movie, but the majority of the movie features Alex in his black suit, and it's just not the RoboCop I know or want to know. That probably sounds like fanboy whining, and I suppose it is, but could they not have kept the original blue-silver suit? Or if they wanted a more "tactical" RoboCop, why not give his suit a cloak ability, where it could turn black at night, and stay blue-silver during the day? That way they can have a cool new look, but keep referencing the old suit throughout the movie. On the plus side, the black suit did lead to a hilarious joke from Michael K. Williams (who plays Murphy's partner Lewis) about having a black partner, so it's not all bad.
