5. Aiden Gillen (Aberama Gold) - Wake Wood

In Wake Wood, Aiden Gillen plays grieving father Patrick who moved to a rural village after his daughter, Alice, was killed. In the new town of Wake Wood, Patrick and his wife discover a pagan leader called Arthur who can resurrect the dead by performing a blood ritual. Under his tutelage, the couple take drastic steps to resurrect their daughter.

It's hard to take Wake Wood seriously because the quality of the filming camera is so poor; you feel like you're watching a student project rather than a feature. Also, due to bad lighting it's hard to see clearly in the outside scenes, especially at night time.

Although it's common for low-budget horror films to be quite short, the 90-minute run time for Wake Wood feels like a detriment. Even though the main couple have endured an unspeakable tragedy, it's hard to sympathise with them since the pacing is too sporadic for the audience to get the chance to know any of the characters. The film would've worked better if there was a few more scenes to let the characters breathe so we could empathise with them more.
