10 Awful Movies That Actors Loved Shooting

8. John Travolta - Battlefield Earth

Roger Christian's Battlefield Earth is notorious for being one of the worst cinematic flops in the history of the industry. Standing at a pitiful 3% on Rotten Tomatoes, it's a thoroughly miserable experience to sit through with its corny acting, abysmal effects and insufferable narrative.

Battlefield Earth was based on the novel of the same name by Ron L. Hubbard, and right from the get-go the filmmakers had a problem. Taking the works of the infamous founder of scientology and bringing them to the big screen was immediately met with scepticism by many a viewer before Battlefield Earth arrived. On arrival, it bombed with both audiences and critics alike.

The film's main star, John Travolta, appeared to disagree with this response and had a worthwhile time making Battlefield Earth, even with all the bad buzz surrounding its subject matter. Travolta's enthusiasm was partly down to being a scientologist himself, but he also honed in on what he called an "amazing physical transformation" which put the actor up on four foot stilts alongside tons of makeup.

Travolta would later call Battlefield Earth "a beautiful film" and said he would do it all over again if he could, speaking to his overall enjoyment of being involved in the production. Maybe John Travolta genuinely did enjoy working on Battlefield Earth? Or maybe he was merely trolling the scathing reviewers?
