10 Awful Movies That Actors Loved Shooting
9. Nicholas Cage - Ghost Rider
A year before the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicked off with Iron Man, one of the final non-MCU films to feature a Marvel Comics character premiered. Ghost Rider is one of the more underused characters in comics, and in 2007 he was brought to the big screen for the first-time by director Mark Steven Johnson.
Ghost Rider stands as one of the weaker attempts to bring a Marvel superhero to the big screen; it's chock full of corny dialogue, awkward tone shifts and a central performance that injects too much of the character's own personality into the proceedings. For some it can be enjoyed as a guilty pleasure, but it's far outclassed by the many superior MCU films.
For Nicholas Cage himself, however, the project was a riot to take part in. As an actor known for going completely bonkers on-screen, Cage's over-the-top turn as Johnny Blaze saw him throw himself head-first into every scene. The actor's exaggerated emotions, especially when Blaze first transforms into the Rider, says it all.
Through much of the film's promotional interviews and behind the scenes footage, you can tell Nic Cage was having a blast becoming the Ghost Rider, despite the film's woeful shortcomings. The actor's wild acting would continue four years later in 2011's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
