5. Karate Kid 3 (1989)

Now we're talking. The original Karate Kid was a superbly subtle coming-of-age drama that's even more quotable than Anchorman. The sequel was a bit more run-of-the-mill, but a fun journey with the loveable characters nonetheless. The second sequel? OK, perhaps they were starting to scrape the barrel a bit. The "plot" concerns John Kreese (defeated dojo owner from the first film) unfeasibly going mad about the loss almost a year later because all his fickle students left. Rather than simply recruit some more and put it all behind him, he goes through a bizarre and unnecessary series of asides in order to find someone to try and kick Daniel-San's ass. Despite clearly running out of reasons to stage karate fights in school gyms, the film still managed to bank over $10 million when it opened, no mean feat for a film with no guns in it in 1989.
