10 Awful Trailers For Surprisingly Good Horror Movies

Based on Ouija's trailer, you'd think this haunting thriller was by-the-numbers schlock that didn't harbour a single creative idea.

Yeah, pretty much.

Ouija was eviscerated by critics, due to its reliance on jump-scares, trite story, and one-dimensional characters. But since the underwhelming flick earned over ten times its budget (somehow), a follow-up was inevitable.

But based on the trailer for the prequel, it looked like Ouija: Origin of Evil was going to be worse!

Not only did it manufacture all the same beats from its predecessor's trailer, it also incorporated "the creepy kid" trope we've seen a million times before.

But not only is Origin of Evil way better than the first instalment, it's a decent film in its own right. With a pre-famed Mike Flanagan in the director's chair, the horror auteur crafted a nerve-racking feature that was everything the first Ouija should've been. Even though the scares aren't as common as you'd think, this is because the story focuses more on the characters and their relationships, which makes us care a lot more when things take a spooky turn.

The third act may falter a little, but it doesn't change the fact Origin of Evil is a muse-see for horror purists.
