10 Awful Trailers For Surprisingly Good Horror Movies

3. Nope

Nope Keke Palmer Daniel Kaluuya Steven Yuen
Universal

Nope centres around a horse rancher called OJ who discovers his town is being preyed upon by an ominous force from the sky.

The initial teaser for Nope couldn’t have been more perfect since it fills the viewer with dread and curiosity, without telling you anything. Although moviegoers suspected the unrevealed threat was a UFO, nothing was officially confirmed.

But it looked like the second trailer just couldn’t help giving the game away. Not only did it seem to reveal way too much, the last shot is of a gigantic flying saucer. Like the worst trailers, we assumed the one for Nope spoiled the ending.

That doesn’t change the fact Nope has all the hallmarks of a Jordan Peele feature. Career-making performances. Thought-provoking social commentary that doesn't hit you over the head with its message. Scares that make you question whether you pissed your pants.

That’s not all. Despite what the trailer implied, nothing was spoiled. The final trailer is deliberately misleading, so the biggest surprise is never revealed. There are also many pivotal moments in the story that are barely glimpsed at in the trailer, especially revolving around Steven Yeun’s character.

Upon watching Nope for 30 seconds, you can tell there's a ton of content that the trailers barely touched upon.
