4. The Boy

High Tension

The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan might wish she'd stayed with the walkers, because what she goes through in 2016's The Boy is nothing short of traumatising.

Playing an American named Greta, Cohan travels to England to babysit the son of an eccentric elderly couple. Except their son isn't human. He's a porcelain doll.

Oh, those wacky Brits!

Over the course of her stay, Greta discovers that Brahms (the doll) is sentient. He moves round the house when she's not looking, he takes things from her, he cries in the night.

Okay, this weird British prank has gone too far now!

The real Brahms supposedly perished in a fire many years ago, but his spirit seems to have survived in the doll.

A possessed doll would be far too implausible though, just ridiculous really. The real outcome makes way more sense - Brahms actually survived and has been living in secret for 20 years!

The whole thing falls apart as soon as the real Brahms is revealed. Instead of an interesting plot about a supernatural doll, the whole thing descends into a farce about a grown man living inside his parents' walls.
