How well do you know your own father? Would you be able to recognise if something minor had changed about him?

For example, let's say he'd died and his body had been turned into a puppet by his deranged wife. Would you notice that?

If your answer was "yes", which it should be, then congratulations! You are one hundred times more observant than the hero of 2007's Dead Silence.

Jamie Ashen returns to his family home after his wife is murdered under mysterious circumstances. He discovers that his bloodline is being stalked by the spirit of a dead ventriloquist who kills anyone who screams in her presence.

It's an intriguing premise, for sure, executed nicely by Saw co-creator James Wan. And then comes the big reveal.

It turns out that Jamie's elderly father Edward, who has been presented as very much alive throughout the movie, died ages ago and was converted into a puppet by the film's villain.

Do we really need to explain how stupid this is? How on Earth did Jamie not notice that his dad was a dummy? Talk about a bad son!

Maybe he deserved to be haunted after all.
