10 Awkward Movie Moments That Must Have Happened Off-Screen

4. Declan Finding His Dad Alive & Well - The Banshees Of Inisherin

Though described as a dark comedy, The Banshees of Inisherin certainly favours more the dark than the comedy.

While the toughest thing to watch about the movie is Colm's self-mutilation and the death of Dominic, there is also the regression of Pádraic. All he wanted to do was go to the pub with his lifelong friend, but instead, he was beaten and battered down to Colm's level.

He told his former friend that he used to be nice, until he comes across Colm's new friend, Declan. In a fit of jealousy, he tells the young musician that his father had been hit by a bread truck (though, at the time, he didn't know that was how Declan's mother died), and that he needed to return home so he didn't die alone.

Imagine the panic of Declan travelling home before the relief of seeing his dad unharmed, and then the utter confusion as to why this stranger told him his dad was dying. It would've been too much of a sidetrack from the main story certainly, but such a painfully awkward scene would've absolutely fit with the movie's tone.
