I Still Know What You Did Last Summer wasn't for everyone, but it was nothing if not a fun dumb popcorn slasher with the unique setting of the Bahamas during a tropical storm. As for I Still Know's 1997 predecessor, that's viewed as a classic of the decade, as the second half of the '90s - led magnificently by Wes Craven's Scream - saw the horror genre step out of the tired tropes of the '80s and early '90s.

Back during that time, the plan was for I Know What You Did Last Summer and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer to be followed by a third and final picture: I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.

With the mixed response to I Still Know, I'll Always Know spent years in development hell. Whilst there was only a year between the release of the first two movies, it took eight years to finally get I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer out into the wild.

By the time that threequel eventually arrived, there'd been various comings and goings, various different scripts, and plans to focus the film on Jennifer Love Hewitt's Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr.'s Ray Bronson were completely ditched.

Instead, I'll Always Know became a direct-to-video affair with a completely new set of characters who find themselves stalked by a hook-wielding Ben Willis who is now a teleporting, supernatural entity. It was trash, it absolutely was not worth the wait, and it well and truly put a halt to this franchise.

Well, until reports surfaced earlier this year that a "legacy sequel" - think 2022's Scream - is now a possibility...
