10 Badass Samuel L. Jackson Movie Quotes

2. Shaft (2000)

"You know me. It's my duty to please that booty."

Although technically not a remake, seeing as this John Shaft is the nephew of the bad mutha-shut-yo'-mouth from the 1971 original (played once again by a cameoing Richard Roundtree), this 21st Century take on Shaft is a disappointingly uninspired piece of filmmaking, despite the pedigree of director John Singleton and star Samuel L Jackson. Despite the rather pedestrian narrative, Jackson still manages to wring every ounce of cool from the character, with his performance really the only thing to recommend.

Following New York's baddest detective as he investigates a racially-motivated murder, Jackson brings his unique brand of effortless cool to the role. In spite of the workmanlike plot, the actor oozes charisma throughout the movie, especially when delivering lines like this one. Plenty of actors would make it sound either cheesy or creepy, but in Samuel L Jackson's hands became one of his most iconic lines of dialogue, and no doubt inspired a great deal of sub-par imitations in bars across the country.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
