10 Badass Samuel L. Jackson Movie Quotes

7. The 51st State (2002)

"Ain't that always the way? Elevator music, a n***a with a kilt, and a chick with a nickel-plated nine?"

Known as Formula 51 for the US release, this British/Canadian co-production has become something of a cult favorite in the years following its release. The movie stars the unlikely duo of Samuel L Jackson and Robert Carlyle as the awesomely-named Elmo McElroy and Felix da Souza, a drug chemist and gangland fixer respectively. The plot focuses on McElroy coming to Liverpool to try and find a buyer for his new 'super-drug' POS 51, before things unsurprisingly spiral out of control. Despite a few visual flourishes, The 51st State is a violent, overcomplicated, and over-directed misfire, but when you have Samuel L Jackson playing a cornrow-sporting, kilt-wearing drug dealer named Elmo at least there's a saving grace. The actor signed on to the movie after reading the script and despite the patchy quality of the final product, there are still a couple of great lines, especially this one which acknowledges the sheer ridiculousness of the situation, and is delivered with Jackson's signature cool.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
