10 Baffling Casting Decisions That Turned Out To Be Awesome

2. Billy Zane - The Collector

Billy Zane - you€™ll either know him as the ex-squeeze of Kelly Brook or as the psycho killer who smiled everyone to death in the Aussie thriller, Dead Calm - but he€™s also known for causing puzzlement when the Handsome One was cast as The Collector (aka: the Devil) in the criminally underrated Tales From The Crypt: Demon Knight. But despite shocking the world by using the film to showcase his baldy, cue ball noggin€™, he was able to steal the film from under the nose of every actor around him, including Jada Pinkett and perennial scene stealing, bit-part actor, Dick Miller. With his tongue firmly planted in his cheek, and casting caution to the wind, he was both intimidating, suave, hilarious and captivating in equal measures. All whilst trying to kill everybody in his way and unleashing demons upon the world. Of course, Zane was aided by brilliant dialogue, like €œAll right, I know what you're thinking. You give up your soul, you turn into a demon, you look like s***. Where's the payoff, right? €œ and €œhumans. You're not worth the flesh you're printed on! €œ but it was Zane that brought the words - and the character - to life. It shouldn€™t have worked, he was too pretty boy and too lightweight (apparently) but, as with everyone else on this list, he did it with aplomb. And gave balding guys around the world the confidence to go cue ball.

Chiselled, charismatic, intellectual.....these are just a few words in my vocabulary. Loves watching films and believes the best thing about Christmas is watching old people slip on ice.
