10 Baffling Decisions That RUINED Artemis Fowl
1. Artemis Isn't The Villain
The entire draw of the original book is that Artemis Fowl is the villain of the story. Rather than writing another book about a Harry Potter-esque chosen one, Eoin Colfer drew readers in by presenting this twelve year-old boy as the antagonist of his own story.
He's supposed to be a child prodigy, a criminal mastermind who unearthed the existence of fairies and magic all by himself, and figured out how to exploit them for his own nefarious reasons. Instead, the Artemis we get is a heroic (if slightly rude) child who doesn't do anything unless his dad tells him to. It's a pretty lame switcheroo.
The film ends with Artemis turning to the camera and saying "I'm Artemis Fowl... And I'm a criminal mastermind." This is after ninety whole minutes of him committing no crimes or doing anything that could be described as "smart".
What a twist!
