10 Bafflingly High 2015 IMDb Scores You Won't Believe
7. The Dressmaker
The Score: 7.6/10 What It Should Be: 6/10 The Dressmaker is a film that doesn't quite know what it wants to be. Is it a comedy? A romance? Both? Or is it a drama with a few funny moments? Is an outright melodrama, even? You might even consider it to be a revenge flick, too, depending on your mood. The biggest question of all, perhaps, is... are you supposed to take it seriously or not? There's no way to tell. Still, something about The Dressmaker must have connected with the users of the IMDb, who saw it fit to reward Kate Winslet's latest picture with a rating of 7.6. If you've seen The Dressmaker, learning of such a rating might have been enough of a shock to have you do a double-take. The director of the movie, Jocelyn Moorhouse, described the film as "Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven with a sewing machine." If only. There is a time and a place for a tonal shift, which is something that Moorhouse doesn't stop to consider. Every scene is written with a different genre in mind, and to think that - somehow - this film is more than halfway to an 8 rating suggests we've all gone mad.
