Less delightful is that the movie from which the mask's popularity has ballooned, V For Vendetta, has somehow become regarded as a modern classic, placing in the IMDb Top 250 with a site rating of 8.2. Based on Alan Moore's famed graphic novel, the film certainly bites off a lot, with a broad range of social topics explored through a dark sci-fi lens. But it's far from a masterpiece, never feeling as justified as 1984 (either in novel or film form). The skewed political angle may work against the film, but it helps boost its popularity. It's a base coverage of anarchy that doesn't explore much beyond its character being anti-dictatorship, approaching revolution with the understanding of a teenage boy. Teenage boys who take it to heart in a manner like Fight Club and run to rate it 10/10.
